Cotswold craft baking is coming to Moreton in Marsh, as the owners of Charlotte’s Pantry hand over, from one local family to another. The Peel family have decided to retire after 8 successful years on the bustling high street of Moreton in Marsh, selling their business to longtime local residents, the Taee family, who own Huffkins Bakery & Cafe Tea Rooms.
The Taee family, who live in nearby Broadway and Chipping Norton, is set to take on the much-loved tea room in November. The family-run company has its own craft bakery in Oxfordshire where products are made by hand, from scratch. Huffkins buys ingredients from local suppliers and prides itself on offering a true taste of the Cotswolds.
Joshua Taee, Managing Director of Huffkins Bakery & Cafe Tea Rooms, said: “Huffkins was founded over 130 years ago in the nearby market town of Burford, so we understand the importance of looking after our local residents as well as our visitors. Moreton is a beautiful place with a strong community - I lived in the town myself for several years. We are very proud to be investing in Moreton and we are really excited to serve our local community.”
The new Huffkins cafe tea room will serve breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and everything in between, to sit in or takeaway. This includes a wide range of handmade cakes, freshly baked pastries and house-roasted coffee. Local residents will also benefit from a loyalty stamp card scheme and a platter service (available for collection) to cater for all types and sizes of occasion.
Taee continued: “We’re here to create delicious experiences that you won’t find anywhere else. That’s why we have our very own craft bakery. We also believe great food can be simple and that it should be accessible. That’s why you can enjoy a well-priced takeaway breakfast at Huffkins just as easily as a luxurious three-tiered afternoon tea. The key ingredients on our menu are quality and authenticity. We source locally and we keep our menu moving with the seasons.”
Chris Peel, of Charlotte’s Pantry, added: “We’re delighted to be passing the torch to another local family and much-loved Cotswold brand. It’s reassuring to know that our loyal staff will remain and be a friendly face for our regular customers, who we’re sure will welcome Huffkins with open arms.”
Taee concluded: “We are greatly looking forward to working with the wonderful team from Charlotte’s Pantry and bringing them into the Huffkins family. Additionally, we are investing in a refurbishment program to really show off the best that this stunning Cotswold stone building, complete with courtyard garden, has to offer. We want to make a meaningful contribution to the town.”
Moreton in Marsh high street benefits from ample parking and is just a short walk from the train station, with regular direct services to London Paddington. There is ample seating, a relaxing courtyard garden and the space will be very well-equipped for families and children. Huffkins is dog friendly and the new site will include a small stick library for pooches to enjoy.
Group bookings and reservations will also be available at the new premises, with coach parking nearby to provide easy access to larger parties and tour groups.
